How to keep your Data Safe

When it comes to protecting your data, you have to be so careful and also keep changing your security and passwords often. There's no foolproof way to protect your data but a few steps can go a long way. Here are a few to help you keep your data safe.

1. Passwords - A lot of us (especially with iphones) have the option to save our passwords to our phones., which can be very handy but also easier for people to get into our accounts and data. Software like LastPass or Dashlane you only remember one master password.

2. Update your privacy automatic settings - Most mobile apps let you choose how much and what kind of information is shared with providers. It's best to always choose the least amount possible. This is because sometimes companies will pass on your data to other businesses. Keeping your data more secure means less is available to companies you don't know.

3. Have a face or fingerprint ID on your phone or laptop/computers.

4. Always back up your data - there are now plenty of virtual services to hold your pictures or files, such as i Cloud. You can also buy an external hard drive to put older files and photos on.

5. For phones, make sure to have some phone locating app installed so you can find your phone if it ever gets lost.

6. Be cautious of free WiFi and how safe the connections actually are. many public connections are not encrypted. This means your online activity could be visible to other people on the network. Hackers also have the tools to snoop on what you're doing. If you're going to check your bank account or edit your personal details, try to do it at home.

7. Any apps you no longer use, be sure to delete and get rid of any remaining details as a lot of information will still stay with them.

8. Turning off Bluetooth - Bluetooth can be a gateway for hackers. It's possible for them to connect to your phone through the open connection. The best way to stop attackers is to turn off your device's Bluetooth when you're not using it.
